Robinson to wing it for England
22 March 2003, 8:03 am
Jason Robinson is not fussy where on the park he plays for England in the RBS 6 Nations, as long as he is playing.
England coach Clive Woodward insists the former rugby league star is "a fantastic player" at both wing and full back, whiel Robinson claims he is happy wherever but prefers number 15.

However, Josh Lewsey's two-try performance in the RBS 6 Nations victory over Italy when Robinson was ruled out with a knee injury has given Woodward extra options.

And he decided to switch the fit-again Sale Sharks player to the right wing with Dan Luger dropping down to the replacements' bench.

The move - and Lewsey's man-of-the-match display against Italy - have certainly not taken Robinson by surprise.

"I didn't wonder at all," he said. "He's a great player and it hasn't just come up in the last couple of weeks.

"He's been playing well for a while and it's a good thing for England.

On the question of where he would rather play the he replied: "A favourite position? I would say at the moment it's full-back. But at international level the most important thing is just to get picked."

But harking back to his rugby league days with Wigan and his early days in union he pointed out: "I have played on the wing for nine years but you get used to playing a certain position and doing certain things.

"The role I have is very similar, it's to go out and play. The good thing is we can mix and do whatever we want."
