The Biarritz man suffered the injury during France’s World Cup quarter-final win over England back at the start of October but played on during France’s run to the final handing over kicking duties to Morgan Parra and François Trinh-Duc.

Yachvili made his return to club action for Biarritz in Saturday’s Heineken Cup defeat to the Ospreys.

And it has now emerged that the 31-year-old will miss the Basque’s side clash with Saracens this weekend and next week’s Top 14 encounter with Racing Métro.

Biarritz coach Patrice Lagisquet, who is expected to be named as part of Philippe Saint-André staff for the next RBS 6 Nations, said: “He complained of pain at half-time and during the second half - every time he kicked he felt like he was punched in the leg.”

Yachvili, who has 59 caps to his name, faces stiff competition from Clermont scrum-half Parra and in-form Stade Français man Julien Dupuy to retain his spot as first choice number nine for France under new man Saint-André.
