Easter relishing clashes with 'dominant' southern hemisphere

Nick Easter admits New Zealand's World Cup victory last month has confirmed the southern hemisphere's dominance after it was confirmed England will host four nations from south of the equator for next year's Autumn Internationals.
The 2012 QBE Internationals at Twickenham will kick off against Fiji on November 10, followed by match-ups against Australia, South Africa and finally world champions New Zealand.

England will be aiming to successfully defend the 2012 RBS 6 Nations title, which would give them a much-needed confidence boost going into such a tough series.

No.8 Easter said: “The calibre of opposition at the 2012 QBE Internationals sets up some huge games against very tough sides.

“You’ve got to beat the best if you want to be the best and that is what England aspires to be.

“These tests are a massive challenge especially with New Zealand winning the World Cup. “The southern hemisphere has set the benchmark over the years and we know that they hold dominance so it is always good to pit yourself against them.”

England have not beaten the All Blacks since 2003, but Easter is hoping the support of the Twickenham faithful may give them the edge they need to upset the World Cup holders.

He said: “The games always have plenty of support and it is fantastic to see fans really enjoy themselves at Twickenham. Players and supporters love the northern vs. southern hemisphere rivalry so there is a lot to look forward to.”

New Zealand’s World Cup winning fly half Stephen Donald, now plying his trade at Bath, agreed: “That north vs. south rivalry is unique and always gives the big battles in every area of the park.”

England thrashed Australia 35-18 in the 2010 Autumn International, their last meeting, a result Wallabies captain James Horwill says has not been forgotten by his side.

“Obviously the history between Australia and England means there is always an edge to our internationals, and I’m sure that November’s game will be no different,” he said.

England will be hoping to overturn a seven match losing streak against South Africa, with the last victory coming at Twickenham in 2006.
