Brown has not pulled on the Red Rose jersey since the summer of 2008 when he won the last of his three international caps – against New Zealand in Auckland.

However after having a big hand in Quins’ unbeaten start to the season the 26-year-old is adamant it is time he is considered for a recall.

England are now not in action until the RBS 6 Nations campaign in 2012 and while accepting the talents of current incumbent Ben Foden, Brown wants his chance.

“I like to think I should be knocking on the England door the way I am playing,” said Brown – who has notched 54 tries in 153 starts for Quins in the last five years.

“I had a good season last year and a good start to this season. I have belief in my ability and I feel I should be pushing Ben Foden for his spot.

"I’m not saying I should start, he is a brilliant player and in good form, but I should be pushing him hard.”
