Georgia will offer a similar obstacle to Argentina this weekend, with a powerful front five again awaiting Johnson’s men.
But Northampton flyer Ashton has called on England to start throwing the ball around if they’re to produce the type of performance to worry the likes of World Cup favourites New Zealand and South Africa.
“I’d like us to be able to play a bit more,” said Ashton. “Teams are going to try and stop us.
“I watched the Australia game and Italy did it to them for 50 minutes, then it opened up.
“Georgia will have watched our game against Argentina and will try to do the same things – mess up the rucks and stop us getting quick balls.
“We’ve got to get used to that, we’ve got to be better at the breakdown and better at seeing the space and giving the ball to the right people.
“It’s all going to change from here on in, I’m sure it will. Hopefully getting my hands on the ball a bit more and having some space to run in will satisfy me and end the frustration.
“I am desperate to get back to my best form and I aim to do that this weekend.”
