Would Stephen Jones have slotted the penalties James Hook missed?
Jenkins and Jones return to Wales training

Wales have received a much needed double boost following Sunday's heartbreaking 17-16 World Cup defeat to South Africa with Stephen Jones and Gethin Jenkins returning to training.

The British & Irish Lions are now back in the mix for Sunday’s match against Samoa while

medical performance manager Prav Mathema reported no fresh injury concerns from their bruising match against the Springboks.

“Both Stephen and Gethin will be fully integrated into the training programme this week and, if they come through the periods of high intensity training, we would expect to make them both available to the selectors ahead of this weekend’s game”,  he stated.

Scarlets fly-half Jones and Blues loosehead prop Jenkins were ruled out at the weekend due to both suffering with calf problems, but they have now been deemed fit enough to return to full training with the side.

Ospreys back-rower Ryan Jones is now the only player still on coach Warren Gatland’s injury list.

But Mathema maintains, with a clean bill of health elsewhere, the former captain does not have to be rushed back.

“Ryan will continue his rehabilitation with us and is still looking at a return to play time of around two to three weeks,” Mathema added.

“The fact that we have been able to report no new significant injury concerns to the coaches from the weekend’s game means that the decision to allow him to stay and work at getting back to fitness in time for that Fiji match can still stand.

“We have been fortunate on the injury front and come through the South Africa game relatively unscathed with just a few minor bumps and bruises to contend with.”
