Armitage ready to spread his wings for England

Delon Armitage revealed he is relishing England's expansive style after being selected for their World Cup opener against Argentina tomorrow.
Armitage played no part in England’s victorious RBS 6 Nations campaign but impressed during the warm-up games against Ireland and Wales.

Against the Pumas he will make his first start on the wing for England after being preferred to Mark Cueto who is still struggling with a back injury.

And the London Irish man, who has made 16 starts at full back for the Red Rose, admits playing in a World Cup is something he has dreamt about since Jonny Wilkinson’s famous drop goal eight years ago.

“The style England are playing, the way we want to throw the ball around and the way we want to have a go, that suits the way we want to play,” said Armitage.

“I didn't even think I'd be over here. To have the opportunity to start now, I'm speechless, it's like a dream come true. It's everything I've ever wanted since I watched the final in 2003.

“I had just joined the London Irish academy and was in an academy house watching the final with Topsy Ojo, thinking 'one day, who knows, it could be us'. I'm over the moon.

“I play a lot better with a smile on my face, when I am relaxed and enjoying it and recently I have got back to that.”
