Ross Rennie has been handed a huge chance to force his way into Scotland's World Cup squad after being named in Andy Robinson's side for the warm-up clash with Ireland.
It will be the Edinburgh flanker’s first start, his six previous caps have been earned off the bench, after the 25-year-old continued to impress his former Gunners club boss in recent training camps.

Robinson has made four further changes to the side that ended the RBS 6 Nations on a high with a 21-8 win over Italy.

Centre Graeme Morrison, who missed the whole of the 2011 tournament with a knee injury, comes back in to take the No.12 shirt with Sean Lamont moving back onto the wing at the expense of Simon Danielli.

In the forwards Johnnie Beattie’s recovery from a shoulder injury is complete so he returns at No. 8 with Alasdair Strokosch brought in from out in the cold for his first start in nearly two years while Jim Hamilton gets the nod at lock.

The men to miss out are John Barclay, Kelly Brown, Nathan Hines and Alastair Kellock and Robinson has laid down the gauntlet to his side that places on the plane to New Zealand are still up for grabs.

“In any international match there is always a huge amount at stake, but these Tests take on extra significance this year as we hone our preparations for the start of the world’s third biggest sporting event,” said Robinson, who has handed the captaincy to Rory Lawson.

“I am a firm believer that competition brings the best out in players and I’ve said to the squad that it lies in their hands to make the case for their inclusion in the final 30 for New Zealand.”
