Mike Ross
Ross, 31, had to wait until the 2011 RBS 6 Nations to get a run in Ireland's team
Ross intending to lay down marker against Munster

Leinster's Mike Ross intends to use this weekend's Magners League Grand Final clash with Munster to showcase why he is Declan Kidney's first-choice tightehead.
The 31-year-old heads into Saturday’s showcase in high spirits after helping his side to Heineken Cup glory, Leinster’s second in three seasons.

And with Munster proving to be the last game of Ross’ season thanks to Ireland not being included in the Churchill Cup, it is the last chance for the two sides’ Irish contingent to impress Kidney.

Ross started all of Ireland’s RBS 6 Nations games this year but says he is not taking nothing for granted with the World Cup fast approaching.

“We know them (Munster) and they know us and it’s interprovincial so there’s a little extra edge because players are playing for a World Cup place,” he said.

“This will be our third time to play this season. I know Marcus (Horan) well enough. He’s had a couple of tough years with injury and that heart condition. He’s a pure competitor and he’s not going to give me an easy time.

“There’s no Churchill Cup so it’s a last opportunity for people who might be on the fringe to impress.

“I was in the Churchill Cup panel and you wanted to do everything to put yourself in the frame for the senior team.

“I’m sure that will be no different this time because no one’s guaranteed a spot. This is definitely a chance to lay down a marker.”
