Owen Farrell
Owen Farrell in action against Leinster in the Heineken Cup
Farrell wants kicking responsibility in final
16 May 2011, 4:03 pm
By Paddy McLaughlin, Sportsbeat
England Under-20 fly-half Owen Farrell insists he can handle the pressure of the Saracens goal-kicking duties in the Aviva Premiership final after holding his nerve in the last four win over Gloucester.
The 19-year-old, son of former dual-code international and Sarries first-team coach Andy, missed four penalties and two drop-goal attempts but slotted the late three-pointer that edged his side a 12-10 win.

Saracens will now meet Leicester on May 28 in a repeat of last year’s final, which the Tigers edged 33-27, and Farrell believes he can step up to the plate.

Farrell will compete with Alex Goode and Richard Wigglesworth, who both fluffed chances as well against the Cherry & Whites, and such profligacy against the champions would cost them dear.

But Farrell said: “I would love to kick in the final. We will see how it goes in practice but I am always confident and I will be ready.

“I was involved in the final last year but we have grown as a team week by week this season.

“Leicester are an unbelievable team and very tough but I know we will be confident and will just treat it as another game.

“A few hit the posts and I pushed a few wide but I was always striking the ball well so I was always confident in taking the kick at the end.

“You don’t look back at kicks during the game. You have to be straight on to the next thing. I will have a look at it during the week but the one that went over counted the most.”
