Du Randt after Ireland post

Former Springbok Os du Randt has urged the IRFU to sign him up to help save Ireland's faltering scrum.
The 38-year-old certainly isn’t lacking in rugby pedigree, having racked up 80 South African caps during his career, winning two World Cups along the way.

And the former loosehead prop has thrown his name into the hat to help revitalize Declan Kidney’s side in the scrum, something that has often been seen as their Achilles heel.

“Ireland aren't happy with their scrumming standards and that's an area they want to improve,” du Randt said, who lost his job as South Africa's scrum coach following an alleged late night out before a Test in November

“We are still negotiating the deal and, hopefully, things will be sorted out soon.

“(Ireland forwards coach) Gert Smal will also help me settle. I've worked a lot with him as a player.

“I'm looking forward to getting one over the top guys in the Bok coaching team, considering what happened, but it's going to be tough being up against the players.”

Although du Randt seems keen to join the men in green’s coaching staff, the IRFU have moved to distance themselves from any rumours.

“The IRFU and Ireland team management can confirm that no discussions or negotiations have taken place in relation to Os du Randt joining the coaching staff of the Ireland team,” said an IRFU spokesman.
