Morgan suffers injury blow

England hopeful Olly Morgan's World Cup hopes took a major setback after the full-back suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder in Saturday's Premiership clash with Leicester.
The 25 year-old is odds-on to miss the remainder of the season, and will be battling for full fitness come the summer, after a thunderous hit from Italian international prop Martin Castrogiovanni left him grounded.

Morgan had been in sparkling form for the Cherry & Whites and had been hopeful of forcing his way back in the England set-up with his last cap coming in the 2007 RBS 6 Nations.

Morgan had given Gloucester a swift lead in the top-flight showcase at Welford Road, displaying his ever-present attacking threat with the first of five tries for the visitors in a breathtaking game which eventually finished 41-41.

However his afternoon, and his season, was marred soon after by the clash with Castrogiovanni at the worst possible time with Martin Johnson due to announced his Rugby World Cup training squad on June 17.

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath confirmed the extent of the injury would become clearer once Morgan was examined by club physios.

“We've got to assess the damage when it calms down” said Redpath, before admitting, “I think it may be a dislocation and if that's the case then that's a worry.”

“I hope it's not too bad because he's had his ups and downs, the lad, and he doesn't need any more serious injuries.”
