But Robinson’s recent run of form hasn’t gone unnoticed by Howley who was particularly impressed by his 14-point haul in Gloucester’s LV= Cup victory over Newcastle.
"I watched the Newcastle game in the LV final. We're very mindful of Nicky's strengths,” said Howley.
“In Rugby World Cup year we have to keep all our options open in terms of talent and the talent which has been playing in England.”
The number of Welsh exiles will increase next season with James Hook, Lee Byrne, and Craig Mitchell all joining clubs outside the Principality while Robinson has swapped Gloucester for Wasps where he will work under Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards.
And despite waiting for two years to pull on a red shirt, Robinson maintains his passion for Wales still burns as deep as it has ever done.
"I haven't retired, I don't think, by playing in England… or that it diminishes my chances of playing, personally,” he said.
"Other people might think that, but I still hope and dream that I can put that red jersey back on.
"I still hope that I can play for Wales again. Whether that's in the World Cup or not I don't know.”
