Redpath guarded over Scots' progress
9 March 2003, 10:05 am
Skipper Bryan Redpath gave a cautious welcome to Scotland's first win of the RBS 6 Nations Championship against Wales at Murrayfield.
Wing Chris Paterson inspired the Scots to a 30-22 win with a 20-point haul, scoring a last-minute try and producing a perfect kicking display with three penalties and three conversions.

But scrum-half Redpath, perhaps mindful that Scotland's next match is a March 22 date with England at Twickenham, was in no mood to read too much into victory against struggling Wales.

"It's definitely a plus for us but I don't know if it is a turning point," Redpath said.

"We're not going to get carried away because there was still a lot of mistakes."

However, Scotland had at least restored some pride after defeats against Ireland and France, and Redpath's caution was mixed with understandable relief.

"We were under massive pressure and we're delighted to get the victory. All credit to us we battled it out."

"They got a couple of tries right at the end but we're delighted with the win. We had good self-belief today, we won good ball and our backs made good use of it."

"Now we've got a very big game against England at Twickenham."
