Wright calls on young Scots to fire

Scotland Under-20 boss Peter Wright maintains his side will need to be firing on all cylinders if they are to banish their RBS 6 Nations blues at this summer's Junior World Championships.
Together with South Africa, Scotland’s youngsters have been drawn in the same JWC pool as home nations rivals England and Ireland – both of whom recorded resounding wins over Wright’s side.

A combination of injuries and club call-ups hampered Scotland’s progress in the Six Nations and they ultimately had to settle for the Wooden Spoon after a final round 9-7 defeat to Italy.

But Wright believes with a full complement of players, Scotland can do themselves justice on a global stage.

“Our Six Nations Championship campaign underlined the need to have 22 players all firing on the night if we’re to come away with the results we want," said the former British and Irish Lion.

“Looking ahead to June, the main task is knitting together the good things that happened in isolation during the Six Nations.

“We’ll also need to hit the ground running, because the three teams we’ll be facing in the pool phase are all quality opponents and there won’t be much margin for error.”

Scotland will begin their campaign with a game against South Africa in Padua on 10 June, followed by short trips to Treviso and Rovigo for games against England and Ireland.

Meanwhile England kick off against Ireland, who they beat convincingly in the Six Nations finale, before their game with the Scots and a potential group decider against the Baby Boks to finish.

Rob Hunter’s side will head into the tournament full of confidence after their resounding Grand Slam triumph as they look to break the Baby Blacks’ monopoly on the tournament.
