Edwards to see out Wales contract

Wales defence coach Shaun Edwards wants to put his suspension behind him after it was confirmed that he would see out the remainder of his contract with the WRU.
Edwards missed Wales’ final RBS 6 Nations 29-8 defeat in Paris against France after being suspended for a week for an alleged incident with performance analyst Fergus Connolly.

The alleged incident took place after Wales’ 19-13 win over Ireland on 12 March leading to the meeting with WRU group executive Roger Lewis.

“The matter of the scuffle following the Ireland game can, I hope, be laid to rest,” said the 44-year-old who is also head coach with London Wasps.

“After a meeting in London yesterday... I am still Wales defence coach.

“There are weeks you'd rather forget, and I hope that is precisely what I am allowed to do with this one.

“Yesterday's meeting with Roger Lewis confirmed I will see out my Wales contract, starting with Barbarians at the start of June and going on to New Zealand in the autumn.”

Edwards started working with Wales in 2008, and in his first season in charge of the defence, Warren Gatland’s side conceded just two tries on their way to Grand Slam glory.

The former rugby league legend’s current contract expires after this year’s World Cup and it remains to be seen whether he will be offered another after Wales conceded eight tries in this year’s Championship.
