The 32-year-old had a watching brief in 2003 having been called up as late cover from Gavin Kerr while four years later his World Cup lasted just 34 minutes before hobbling off with a calf injury in Scotland’s opener with Portugal.

But this time around, Jacobsen is hoping his trip to New Zealand passes off smoothly, and after the Edinburgh battering-ram was an ever-present during Scotland’s recent hit-and-miss RBS 6 Nations campaign, he believes Lady Luck is finally ready to show him her pearly whites.

"I do hope I can now focus on the World Cup which has been in the back of my mind for my whole career," said Jacobsen.

"I just want to have a good end to the season with Edinburgh followed by a good summer's rest and training.

“And not only do I want to go to the World Cup but I also hope to contribute to a Scotland team that can do well."
