Robinson not satisfied with Scotland campaign

Scotland head coach Andy Robinson maintains their 21-8 defeat of Italy does not put the gloss on an otherwise disappointing RBS 6 Nations campaign.
Second-half tries from Nikki Walker and Nick de Luca ensured Scotland avoided the Wooden Spoon but Scotland’s expectations had been set much higher after defeating world champions South Africa in the autumn.

But heading into the 2011 World Cup, Robinson believes the building blocks are in place for Scotland to progress notably in the form of man-of-the-match Richie Gray, fly-half Ruaridh Jackson and veteran full-back Chris Paterson.

“Overall I'm disappointed - we came into the Championship with huge hopes and thought we had the game to take teams on,” said Robinson.

“But we have not achieved what we wanted. We have moved our game forward and we need to perform like this every time we play.

"It's something we've got to look at for the start of the next championship. I believe the players have given everything and it's about the small margins.

“We never thought about it [the Wooden Spoon] it was all about the next performance and the next game

"We're delighted we got two tries in the second half because we had opened them up a few times in the first half.

“We kept our shape and Ruaridh Jackson and Richie Gray were phenomenal.

“What a phenomenal tackle by the old man (Paterson) in the last few minutes and what an example that sets."
