Johnson: pressure is on Ireland

Martin Johnson has denied all the pressure is on England to wrap up the RBS 6 Nations crown this afternoon, instead arguing the weight of expectation lies on Ireland stopping them.
England have all but secured the Championship ahead of the final round of games, having a 42 points difference over Wales, but the great prize lies in a first Grand Slam since 2003.

England have brushed aside all that has been put in front of them so far while Declan Kidney’s men in green have lost to Wales and France and only just beat Italy and Scotland.

And with Ireland looking to avoid going through a Championship campaign without winning at home since 1999, Johnson is convinced it is Kidney’s men who have their backs against the wall.

“The pressure is probably on them in a way, in this situation," said Johnson.

"They've had a couple of disappointing results. I think there's more pressure on them than there is on us.

"I think we have put down some markers [in the championship] and if we can finish it off on Saturday it will be great.

"We have been in two or three really close games and have just managed to keep ourselves the right side of it. Ireland haven't and lost them.

"Days like Saturday are about being able to control the ball in the heat of the game and the heat of the battle and giving ourselves opportunities.

"If we do that, then we need to take them."
