Maggie Alphonsi
Maggie Alphonsi returns to the England side to face Ireland on Friday
Alphonsi returns for Six Nations finale

Flanker Maggie Alphonsi is rewarded for her two tries off the bench against Scotland with a starting berth for England women's Grand Slam decider against Ireland.
In the only other change made by head coach Gary Street from the record-breaking 89-0 defeat of Scotland, Richmond’s Emma Croker starts at hooker. Former captain Catherine Spencer drops to the bench.

England’s sixth consecutive Championship is virtually assured as only an Ireland victory and a 137-point swing to France would deny them the title.

Just as impressive as the 192 points they have rained down in their four matches has been their defensive performance which has seen them ship just eight points.

But although they might seem home and hosed, Street maintains there’s no hint of complacency in a squad bidding for the fifth Grand Slam in their last six seasons.

He said: “As usual we have named a strong side for what we think will be our toughest game of the tournament.

“Emma has shown great energy and has made a real impact when she has come on so she deserves the start, and our backrow is as competitive as ever.

“It was a tough call but this balance worked well against France, whilst I know Catherine will be chomping at the bit to come off the bench.

“You can never underestimate Ireland. They have had a mixed season but they are playing at home so we know this is going to be a really passionate encounter.

“Ireland proved to be our most physical game in the world cup last year and I am sure this will be our toughest game of the Six Nations.

“Obviously the Six Nations title is in our minds, but what we have to concentrate on is building on our performances and to keep moving forward.”
