Mark Cueto hopes to celebrate a landmark in style
Cueto admits England's continuity has been crucial

Mark Cueto is set to celebrate his 50th cap against Ireland on Saturday by lifting the RBS 6 Nations trophy, and the winger has revealed he wondered if he would ever taste glory in an England shirt.
The closest the Sale star has come to silverware before this year’s tournament came in 2007 when he was a losing World Cup finalist in France, going down to South Africa.

In between the 31-year-old has struggled with form at times, failing to cross the touchline for nearly two years before registering against Italy on February 12.

But all that will be forgotten at the Aviva Stadium, believing continuity has given him the chance to finally add international honours to his trophy cabinet as the Red Rose head into the final round of games with a far superior points difference at the top of the pile.

“You can count on one hand the times you get something tangible out of rugby,” Cueto said.

“I’ve never won anything in seven or eight years with England. I’m not getting any younger, so this is a massive opportunity on a personal level.

“Continuity of selection makes such a difference. For whatever reason in the past, whether through injury or form or players not being picked, we just haven’t had it.

“When you get so little time together, that’s such a big factor. And that’s what we’ve had over the last 12-18 months, a clear sense of a squad of players.

“All of which means that when you meet up again after an autumn campaign, you can hit the ground running and not have to start again from square one. That has been the real difference.”
