Winger Max Evans may have scored Scotland's only try of the match at Twickenham but the 27-year-old says he was culpable for their close-fought 22-16 RBS 6 Nations defeat.
Evans’ brilliant chip and catch hauled Scotland back into the match in the closing stages but moments before his hesitation helped give Tom Croft the space to score England’s decisive try.

And Evans could not hide his frustration at having come so close to ending Scotland’s 28-year wait for a victory at Twickenham.

He said: “It was just an error on my part. I should've trusted my inside man.

“Our defence was just immense. But the frustration is that set piece. To lose it so easily and on numerous occasions is just hugely frustrating, especially from a back’s point of view.”

The defeat means Scotland face Italy on Saturday with the wooden spoon on the line for the losers.

And despite Italy’s stunning win over France making the equation much harder for Andy Robinson’s men, Evans could not help but cheer the Azzurri on.

"I was cheering them on watching them," Evans added. “I'm also a fan of rugby as well and when a team deserves a win like Italy did, you cheer them on.

"When we come to the weekend, there'll be no question that I'm out to win myself."
