Robinson backs Scotland to bounce back

Andy Robinson praised the efforts of his Scotland team in pushing England to the wire in their Calcutta Cup defeat at Twickenham.
Some ferocious tackling and work at the breakdown meant England were never able to pull away from the visitors until Jonny Wilkinson added a penalty to Tom Croft’s try late on.

But ultimately Scotland left south west London without a win to their name in the 2011 RBS 6 Nations Championship and will now need to beat Italy to avoid the Wooden Spoon.

While No.8 Kelly Brown was one of a number of injury worries to emerge in the 22-16 defeat, Robinson is confident they can end their campaign on a high note.

He said: “We have got a six-day turnaround but that’s what international rugby is about being able to back up your performances.

“We want to give the supporters something to cheer about.

“The guys have worked hard and it was a huge effort from the players. They put their bodies on the line today.

“As a team, I am pleased with the way we finished against Ireland and the way we played here [Twickenham] today.

“There’s a lot of effort from the boys but they are learning sport is won and lost by the smallest of margins.

“At the moment the inches are not staking up in our favour, they are stacking up against us.”
