Ruaridh Jackson
Jackson has been warned to up his game after a less than spectacular outing against Ireland
Steadman warns Jackson after fly-half avoids the axe

Scotland defence coach Graham Steadman insists it would have been an error to axe Ruaridh Jackson after just one game - but has ordered the fly-half to improve for the Calcutta Cup clash with England.
The 23-year-old was consistently caught out in defence against Ireland prompting speculation Dan Parks could be recalled for the RBS 6 Nations clash with the auld enemy on Sunday.

Coach Andy Robinson has instead opted to keep faith with the Glasgow No.10 but Steadman was quick to warn Jackson his faith wasn’t blind.

“I think it was the right decision to give Jacko a start and the fact he didn’t play to his best last week I think it’s important that he gets another chance,” said Steadman.

“I think it would have been wrong of us to have said ‘right, you’ve had your full cap’, it didn’t work out the way we’d like in all aspects of his game, because he was guilty of four missed tackles one on one, three on front-line defence, which at this level is not acceptable, because when you’re on the back foot and the opposition have got the momentum it can pose a lot of problems.

“Fortunately for us, the scramble defence off the back of those misses was quality. So Jacko knows himself that he’s got to step up this weekend in defence and I’m sure he will, because we can’t afford for players either side of Jacko to be worried about what he’s going to do.

“So I’ve got every confidence in him and that’s why I’ve backed him to do a job this week.”
