Fit-again Jones plays down Wales starting chances

Adam Jones may have made the Wales No. 3 shirt his own in recent years but the Ospreys star insists he's unlikely to start the RBS 6 Nations clash against Ireland.
Jones, who celebrates his 30th birthday on Tuesday, made a welcome return to action for the Ospreys against Glasgow after seven weeks out with an elbow injury.

After the 68-cap star missed Wales' Six Nations matches against England, Scotland and Italy, several pundits have called for Jones to make an immediate return to the starting XV.

But with Craig Mitchell proving an able deputy at tighthead, Jones isn’t expecting to be thrown in at the deep end.

“If I got the call it would be great but the boys have done great since I’ve been away,” said Jones.

“It would be great to get the call if it comes but I’m more than happy with the Ospreys – if I’m honest I couldn’t see myself playing against Ireland.

“If Gats said: ‘I want you back’, I will go back but that is up to them. It was my first game back after a while and it is always going to be difficult.

“The lungs were blowing a bit towards the end but it’s just great to be back on the pitch again.

“It’s nice to hear people think I should go straight back in but I need to get back to full fitness and push for the rest of this season.”
