And Lineen has challenged the 25-year-old to reach his previous heights by winning his place back on merit in the Warriors set-up.

“I’ve spoken to Johnnie,” Lineen told the Herald.

“He admitted himself that he’s found it a bit more difficult to get back into it than he thought, but he needs time and it’s about him having the right attitude and being ready to play for Glasgow Warriors.

“He’s been brilliant today. He’s done everything that was asked of him. He’s really appreciative of why he’s there for Scotland and when he gets on the field I’m sure we’ll see a very determined John Beattie.

“I’m delighted with the way they fronted up, so they deserve another chance.

“Johnnie’s a world-class player and he’ll get a lot of time from the bench but the back-row that’s playing did very well for us.”
