Ireland will be without Stephen Ferris for the remainder of the RBS 6 Nations

Ferris won't return for Six Nations

Ireland team manager Paul McNaughton confirmed that flanker Stephen Ferris will miss the remainder of Ireland's RBS 6 Nations campaign with a knee injury.

Ferris has been out of action since picking up the injury in Ulster’s Heineken Cup clash against Aironi in January and his chances of returning in time for the Six Nations were always rated slim at best.

The 26-year-old, who also missed the British and Irish Lions tour to South Africa with injury, will be out until April as he prepares to visit a specialist in London.

However that does give Ferris a window of opportunity to return in time for Ulster’s Heineken Cup quarter-final against Northampton on April 10.

McNaughton said: “He is down for a consultant's visit to London this weekend and they will know more after that.

“It is too early to write him out of Ulster’s Heineken Cup game at this stage of his recovery.”

Elsewhere Rob Kearney snubbed a lucrative move to the Top 14 by committing his future to Ireland.

The full-back put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Leinster after the World Cup.
