Roberts admits Wales still have work to do

Wales might have moved into second in the RBS 6 Nations standings with victory in Italy but Jamie Roberts believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.
First-half tries from Morgan Stoddart and Sam Warburton led Wales to a 24-16 win at Stadio Flaminio and leapfrogged France into second place behind England.

But the victory was far from flawless from Warren Gatland’s men as they conceded 15 penalties and had some wayward kicking from Italian duo Mirco Bergamasco and Luciano Orquera to thank for the win.

And British and Irish Lions centre Roberts has urged his Wales teammates to not rest on their laurels, admitting there is still work to do ahead of the visit of Ireland on March 12.

“Penalties, whether they're in the scrum or over-competing at rucks is quite daft at some stages,” he said.

“We'll take the win. We need to raise our standards for the Ireland game.

“We're happy with the win, but it was plain for everyone to see there are a lot of things to work on.

“One, our discipline is not good enough really, gifting them penalties on half-way, allowing them to play for that all-important territory and that cost us.

“And two - probably playing a bit too expansively when we didn't really earn the right to.

“We were chucking silly balls and we conceded two tries off that so that's definitely something we need to look at before we build up to Ireland.

“It's important we enjoy the win. Beating Italy in Italy is by no uncertain terms easy because it's a tough place to come and win - they're a very strong team.”
