Johnson hails second-half performance

Martin Johnson was delighted how his England side put a difficult first half behind them to battle to a 17-9 RBS 6 Nations win over France at Twickenham.
England were fortunate to go into the break at 9-9 but a Ben Foden try shortly after the break and a Jonny Wilkinson penalty saw them make it three wins from three.

And team manager Johnson was encouraged by his team’s mental strength.

“It was a good performance from us because we didn’t play well in the first half, we recognized that and we changed it,” he said.

“Sometimes when a team gets in a rut like that it's difficult to change but we sorted it out and could have had three in the second half.

“Both teams made mistakes, it wasn't a spectacular game like two weeks ago, it was a hard fought game.

“They came to win the Championship, they said that and they came to play with a lot of pressure, it was very physical and we're happy with the win and the performance and the way the boys played.

“We have got this week off. There are a few tired bodies and a few injuries so we will get those assessed and then onto the Scotland game.

“We've seen in Test matches if you get it wrong, as we did in the first half a few times when we were indecisive, we put ourselves in trouble. As ever, win or lose, it can get better for next time.”
