Wright happy with Leonard as captain
24 February 2011, 12:54 pm
By Sportsbeat
Scotland Under-20 coach Peter Wright revealed he had no hesitation in naming 18-year-old centre Harry Leonard as his captain for the clash with Ireland on Friday night.
Wright makes three changes in total to a side still looking for their first win of the RBS 6 Nations Championship while Leonard takes over the captaincy from prop George Hunter.

Leonard, who has just signed an elite development contract at Edinburgh, will be one of the youngest players on the field alongside debutant fly-half Stuart Edwards.

But former British & Irish Lion Wright expects Leonard to lead by example in Inverness.

He said: “Harry is obviously still quite young, but he’s extremely vocal and not afraid to give his teammates a tough time if he feels it’s appropriate.

“He’s a mature rugby player and a mature guy, and we want to harness the leadership qualities that he has to the benefit of the team.

“Stuart will provide a strong all-round game at 10. He can run the ball, he can get the backline moving and he also has a good kicking game. He’s been chomping at the bit for an opportunity and now has to grasp it.”

“Tulloch Caledonian Stadium is a magnificent venue for a match like this, and the guys will relish playing there, especially if the support is anything like what we saw and heard for the France game last year.

With Edwards starting at fly-half, Leonard and Mark Bennett shift to inside and outside centre with Stuart Hogg, who will start for Glasgow in the Magner's League, dropping out of the 22 after his red card against Wales.

In the front row, Edinburgh’s Colin Phillips and Team Northumbria hooker David Cherry are giving starts as they replace Hunter and Richard Ferguson who both drop to the bench.
