Jones under pressure to perform

Stephen Jones will treat Saturday's RBS 6 Nations clash against Italy as his last in a Wales shirt even though he is only three Tests away from surpassing Gareth Thomas' Welsh appearances record.
Jones, who is back in the No.10 shirt after being dropped for the match against Scotland, will win his 98th cap in the Stadio Flaminio drawing level with flanker Martyn Williams’ tally.

That would leave Gareth Thomas, the only player to rack up a century of appearances, above him in the pecking order.

But while writing his name into the record books provides plenty of motivation for the 33-year-old to stay at top of his game, he is taking nothing for granted.

He said: "I am conscious of the record because people keep reminding me. But you have to keep focused on each game because I know if I don't perform this could be my 98th cap, but also my last.

"So I don't try to look too far ahead. The physicality of the international game is tougher than it has ever been, which means you take nothing for granted.

"But I have been very fortunate with my career. I have enjoyed things and worked with some great people.

"There is plenty to drive me on. I enjoy things as much as ever, and I still have goals in my head and what I want to achieve.

"I am fortunate that I come in and work in an environment that I love, which is as good as it gets."
