And the 34-year-old Bath hooker has called for patience while a young Welsh squad is gradually moulded together.

Wales tackle Scotland at Murrayfield on Saturday aiming to avoid a third successive championship defeat.

But Humphreys, whose own fitness for the Edinburgh trip is yet to be confirmed, is upbeat about the future.

"I am sure there is quite a bit of expectation about the Scotland game, but the way I see it is that Wales have got the youngest side in this championship by a mile," he said.

"I was looking at training yesterday, and I'm a decade older than about 90% of this side.

"I look at the rest of the teams in the championship, and I see experience scattered throughout. From my point of view, if we can perform better than we did against England, then that's what our goal is right now.

"Hopefully, next year's Six Nations will see Wales going in with a real prospect of winning it, not just trying to make do with a couple of wins here and a couple of wins there. I truly believe that this side is talented enough to do that."
