Gatland staying put say Welsh bosses

Welsh rugby chiefs have acted quickly in announcing that Warren Gatland will not be leaving for the Wasps hotseat.
As speculation began to mount that Gatland was being touted for a return to the vacant head coach’s role at Adams Park, following Tony Hanks’ departure, the WRU have insisted he’s going nowhere.

The WRU released a statement on Friday night to confirm they expect the New Zealander to continue as Wales head coach until his contract expires in 2015.

The New Zealander coached the Premiership giants for three years between 2002 and 2005 and rumblings in the media suggested the 47-year-old was being lined up for a return.

Gatland’s previous tenure was a successful one, leading Wasps to three Premiership titles, the Heineken Cup and a European Challenge Cup.

Gatland’s position was suggested to be under scrutiny after going eight consecutive matches without victory ahead of their RBS 6 Nations triumph over Scotland.

But the WRU have acted quickly to quash the rumours:

“Warren is contracted to the WRU until 2015. Nothing has changed as far as we’re concerned,” said an WRU spokesman."
