France defence coach Dave Ellis has already seen his side concede three tries in each of Les Bleus’ matches against Scotland and Ireland, and has said he will alter his tactics to contain Ashton and co.
But Ashton says the extra attention France pay him will merely open spaces elsewhere for his teammates to exploit in the potential Grand Slam decider.
“If they want to start marking people, that’s up to them.
“I will just keep doing what I am doing. If they want to track me, then it is perfect for us. There is not really a feasible way of man-marking someone unless you are going to take someone out of the line because you will create a hole elsewhere.
“I can only see it creating opportunities elsewhere for the other players in this team. If that happens, fantastic, but if not we will keep playing the way we’ve been playing.
“It is pretty hard to take me out of running somewhere, when the ball is 20 metres away, on the other side. If you do that, you are going to leave a hole somewhere else.”
