Kidney receives Bowe boost

Tommy Bowe looks set to hand Declan Kidney a timely boost ahead of Ireland's trip to Scotland in ten days as he steps up his recovery from a knee injury.
Last year’s RBS 6 Nations Player of the Tournament has returned to full training with the Ospreys and is in contention for Saturday’s Magners League clash in Treviso.

Bowe missed Ireland’s first two Six Nations matches against Italy and France having been out of action since mid-January.

The Ospreys star's last test try came in Ireland’s narrow 23-21 defeat to South Africa last November bringing his international total to 16 tries in 39 tests.

His last match of any kind came for the Ospreys in their disappointing 24-12 Heineken Cup defeat against London Irish more than four weeks ago.

“We've been monitoring Tommy very closely over the last month, as well as being in close consultation with the IRFU management regards his progress,” said Ospreys physio Chris Towers.

“He has made considerable progress over the last couple of weeks, up to the point where we've been able to get him up to high level functional sessions without any adverse reactions.

“As such, we're looking to reintroduce Tommy to team training this week with a view to making him available for selection on Saturday.

“If everything is positive, he will then be able to return to Ireland camp and be involved in their remaining Six Nations fixtures.”
