Mad Dog set to be let off the leash for Bath

Lewis Moody is set to return to action for Bath this weekend as he bids to prove his fitness ahead of England's clash against reigning RBS 6 Nations champions France.
The 32-year-old flanker, nicknamed Mad Dog, damaged knee ligaments a month ago playing for Bath against Aironi and was initially expected to be sidelined for England’s first three Six Nations games.

England have cruised to two victories in his absence, and Bath coach Steve Meehan hinted Moody will be involved in Bath’s clash with Northampton.

Moody’s availability would cause Johnson a selection headache after impressive showings from flankers Tom Wood and James Haskell in the wins over Wales and Italy.

But despite knowing Moody’s desperation to play, Bath head coach Steve Meehan says he will not risk him unnecessarily.

“He looked very good [on Tuesday] and is very keen,” Meehan said.

“But there will be a very thorough medical before he is selected for the match day squad.

“If he’s anything less than 100 per cent fit, then that could be detrimental for the rest of the season.

“We don’t want to put anyone at that risk.”
