Lamont questions Scotland effort

Scotland winger Sean Lamont had harsh words for his teammates after their desperate 24-6 RBS 6 Nations defeat to Wales at Murrayfield.
Scotland went into the game as favourites after an encouraging performance in defeat in Paris and an impressive autumn where they toppled world champions South Africa.

But it was Wales, without a win in their previous eight tests, who dominated, blowing Scotland away in the first twenty minutes.

Lamont was introduced in the unfamiliar position of full back when he replaced Hugo Southwell who injured himself in a nasty collision with Lee Byrne.

And the Scarlets man will be confident of a recall for the visit of Italy in a fortnight after being one of the few Scots to impress.

However that is little comfort to Lamont whose side never looked like scoring despite Wales being temporarily reduced to 13 men in the first half.

“We have to question how much we want this and I think a few boys need to be worried and start looking over their shoulders,” said Lamont.

"We were poor and that is being polite.

“We need to sit down and have some serious alone time, pointing fingers. It is time to shut doors, perhaps not even have the coaches there.

“It was criminal that we did not convert when they were down to 13 men and we should not have lost like we did. We were not good enough."
