Laney out of Welsh clash
27 February 2003, 1:45 pm
Scotland fly-half Brendan Laney has been ruled out of the squad to play Wales in the RBS 6 Nations Championship at Murrayfield on March 8.
Laney did not take up kicking duties in the 38-3 defeat in France last weekend because of injury.

Coach Ian McGeechan explained: "Brendan had a leg injury which hampered his performance against France.

"It's a kicking injury and he's in for a scan which has shown some substantial damage."
Lock Scott Murray has been dropped after the Scots suffered their second heavy defeat of the championship in Paris.

"Scott by his high standards had a below-par game but he's still very important to our squad.

"He's still world-class in things like his line-out work and we'll try to get him back to the form he was showing in the Autumn Test."

Steve Scott, who was on the bench against France, is also dropped with James McClaren, Nathan Hines and Robbie Russell brought in.

Scotland squad: M Blair (Edinburgh Rugby), A Craig (Orrell), K Logan (London Wasps), J McLaren (Bordeaux-Begles), G Metcalfe (Glasgow Rugby), C Paterson (Edinburgh Rugby), B Redpath (Sale Sharks, capt), G Ross (Leeds Tykes), G Townsend (The Borders), K Utterson (The Borders); G Bulloch (Glasgow Rugby), B Douglas (The Borders), S Grimes (Newcastle Falcons), N Hines (Edinburgh Rugby), G Kerr (Leeds Tykes), M Leslie (Edinburgh Rugby), A Mower (Newcastle Falcons), J Petrie (Glasgow Rugby), R Russell (Saracens), T Smith (Northampton Saints), S Taylor (Edinburgh Rugby), J White (Glasgow Rugby).
