Hunter: Scotland Under-20s will learn from mistakes
10 February 2011, 2:05 pm
By Sportsbeat
Scotland Under-20s captain George Hunter is confident his team will learn from their defeat against France to beat Wales in Friday's RBS 6 Nations encounter at Stirling.
Peter Wright’s side were on the wrong end of a hiding last week in Caen, going down 49-5, but prop Hunter believes the young side will be able to turn it around.

And he remains optimistic that if Scotland can cut out the mistakes, they will be able to beat a Welsh side which lost a tight opening game 26-20 to England.

The Scottish front row in particular came under pressure in France, but with a good platform, Hunter feels they have the backs to shine.

“Our poor ball retention was the biggest problem against the French,” said the 19-year-old, who is in his first season with the Glasgow academy.

“But when we had the ball we managed to make a very good French side look quite ordinary.

“We struggled in the scrums, and some of their big guys playing were very strong.

“The Welsh are going to be similar. They will be very physical but our young guys will have learnt from the game against France and we can definitely beat them.

“It’s going to be tough but we need to make sure we look after the ball to give our backs the platform because we have some really promising players.”
