Hook has 'total confidence' in fly-half role

James Hook is aiming to show Warren Gatland he is the man to fill the Welsh No. 10 shirt for the rest of the RBS 6 Nations and in this year's World Cup.
Kiwi coach Gatland handed Hook the fly-half role for Saturday’s trip to Murrayfield after an injury to Stephen Jones limited his participation in training this week.

And the 25-year-old Ospreys star is eager to prove critics wrong and show he can control a game from outside half.

While his last Wales start at fly-half came nearly two years ago, Hook’s decision to leave the Ospreys for Perpignan is mainly due to his desire to play regularly at ten.

“Playing outside-half, there is going to be pressure,” said the Hook, who will win his 49th cap against Scotland.

“I have total confidence about playing there. It's just that I haven't started in the position for a long time.

“But I have confidence in myself to go out there and do the best I can. I am going to try to nail down that shirt - it all starts on Saturday.

“I have been selected, and now I have to get my head down and try to come up with a performance.

“We just have to believe in ourselves and not let outside influences affect us too much.

“We have to get our own house in order and focus on getting that win we need.”
