The 26-year-old has also been omitted from Declan Kidney’s extended squad ahead of the visit of Marc Lievremont’s France to the Aviva Stadium.

But there is some good news for the men in green with No.8 Jamie Heaslip, flanker Stephen Ferris and wing Andrew Trimble all returning to the 33-man squad.

Both Ferris and Trimble will have their respective knee and hand injuries assessed prior to the game, while Heaslip has made good progress from his ankle problem and could feature against the defending Grand Slam champions.

Along with Trimble another seven players have been called in by Kidney to bolster his troops that narrowly downed Italy at Stadio Flaminio.

Brett Wilkinson, Mick O'Driscoll, Donnacha Ryan, Mike McCarthy, Nevin Spence, Johne Murphy, and Gavin Duffy will now all wait to hear if they have made the cut with Kidney announcing his side on Wednesday.
