Under-20s coach Edwards tips Wales to get stronger

Wales Under-20 coach Darren Edwards is confident his side's best is yet to come after a narrow defeat to England in their RBS 6 Nations opener at Parc y Scarlets.
Despite taking a 7-0 lead through Edward Siggery’s converted try, England hit back with scores from Northampton wing Jamie Elliott, Newcastle’s Alex Gray and a double from Worcester’s Matt Kvesic in an 18 minute blitz.

Wales regrouped at the break and scored the only try of the second half when Ben Thomas went over with four minutes to go to finish with a more respectable 26-20 defeat.

And though his side failed to pull off a famous comeback, Edwards, whose side now travel to Bridgehaugh for Friday’s clash with Scotland, believes they’ve set the benchmark with their second 40 minutes in Llanelli.

“Rugby is all about getting on the front foot, so we need to make sure we do that in Scotland because we have shown we have got some dangerous players,” said the former London Irish scrum-half.

“I think we have set ourselves a high standard. We were playing against a very good, well-organised England side and our players responded well.

“It was a frantic couple of minutes at the end and it would have been something special if we had pinched it but it’s really good to have a platform like this to launch from.”
