Lawson challenges Scots to make history

Vice-captain Rory Lawson rallied his troops by insisting Scotland cannot afford the smallest mistake if they are to upset the odds in Paris.
The 28-year-old scrum-half put in a sensational display as Andy Robinsons’ side shocked World Champions South Africa during the autumn matches.

And it’s those standards Scotland must match in order to clinch victory in a city where they have never won an RBS 6 Nations match.

Jim Telfer’s men stunned France 36-22 in the final game to secure the last ever Five Nations in 1999, their only championship triumph in twenty years.

Current attack coach Gregor Townsend was a key figure in both that game, and the 23-21 win at the Parc des Princes in 1995, and Lawson is challenging the current side to follow in their forefather’s footsteps.

“We look back on these results in Paris and we want to add another Scottish victory,” said Lawson.

“It was a huge moment and there are guys in our management team now who were involved in that.

“For us the focus now has to be on making history again.

“We understand that in order to win in Paris it’s no good coming out and putting in an average performance.

“Average isn’t good enough in any game in the Six Nations.

“We know you’ve got to be at the top of your game and put in a special performance in Paris.

“It’s really important for us to go out and put in a performance.”
