Warren Gatland's plans for Wales' RBS 6 Nations opener with England could be set for a late change after winger Leigh Halfpenny was carried off in training.
The Cardiff Blues star is now a major doubt for the visit of Martin Johnson’s men after suffering an ankle injury.
The 22-year-old was sorely missed in the miserable autumn internationals with ankle trouble and will be sent for a scan before a decision is made on his fitness.
But with impressive rookie George North already out with a shoulder injury Gatland will be keeping everything crossed that Halfpenny’s diagnosis is not worst than first feared.
Scarlets youngster Morgan Stoddart is a likely replacement for Halpenny as the Wales injury toll continues to mount.
Adam Jones, Gethin Jenkins, Tom Shanklin, Richie Rees and Andrew Bishop are already out ruled out of the crucial first game.
