Heading to the Scottish capital was meant to cement his spot in the Scottish midfield but the spell, which ended in December, did not live to expectations.

Now the 23-year-old returns to Sixways with Championship side Worcester but, with Morrison ruled out for most of the RBS 6 Nations, Grove is determined not to be out of mind even if he is out of sight.

“I have to be realistic,” Grove told the Scotsman. “Last year I got a shot because of injury. I'm not naïve.

“Max was out then and he came back in and showed his quality. Now Nick De Luca is back fit. But I'm sure Andy would like to see competition for the jersey and I'll do my best to provide that.

“I really enjoyed my time in Edinburgh and I always knew there was no position guaranteed, and that they had very good quality players.

“I also knew that it was a loan deal and I kept in touch with the guys at Worcester because I wanted them to know I was still committed to them getting back to the Premiership, which is a bit difficult when you're off playing with another team.

“Edinburgh made me very welcome and the city is a wonderful place, so I have no regrets about moving up.

“It was a great experience, learning more about the game, the players and Scottish rugby, alongside good coaches, but now I have to switch the focus back to Worcester.”
