Rhys Priestland
Fly-half Rhys Priestland has been in sensational form for the Scarlets in the absence of Stephen Jones
Priestland praises Davies' youth policy

Fly-half Rhys Priestland says Scarlets boss Nigel Davies is the reason that Parc y Scarlets is bursting with young international contenders ahead of the 2011 RBS 6 Nations.
Priestland himself underlined his claims for the Wales No.10 shirt in the absence of the injured Stephen Jones by finishing with a 16-point haul in the 21-15 derby defeat of the Dragons.

It is not just Priestland though who has put their hand up for selection to Warren Gatland’s squad with the likes of Josh Turnbull, scrum-half Tavis Knoyle and wing George North, who is returning from injury, all in the mix.

Davies has never been afraid to put his faith in youth and 23-year-old Priestland is adamant he would be nowhere near the Wales squad if he had not been thrown in the deep end of Magners League rugby so early in his career.

He said: “Times have been hard and Nigel has given a lot of young players a chance which he deserves credit for.

“The Scarlets is a good place to be right now. Myself and the other boys are enjoying themselves right now and I want that to continue.”

“They have done a lot of growing up in the last few years and we have matured a lot.

“We have got a new group of young boys including George North who have already experienced international rugby. That’s given them a huge amount of confidence.

“I am just concentrating on the Scarlets at the moment but if you are playing well for your region at this time of year then you are going to be there or thereabouts for Wales.”
