Massimo Giovanelli's Italy v Ireland preview
20 February 2003, 11:16 am
Our victory against Wales was a memorable one but we must keep a cool head and remain professional although obviously the enthusiasm is a positive thing.
We must not forget we beat a team that is unlikely to win any of their Six Nations games this season - it was great but now we must remain solid and call on all our experience.

Ireland are looking a very good team and I still expect them to be making a good challenge this year. Despite being forced to change their front row this season they have a very solid scrum still.

However, our front row played very well against Wales and hooker Carlo Festuccia was excellent. He is a typical L'Aquila lad - he has come a long way from last year when he was a reserve for L'Aquila.

Paolo Vaccari is very important to us and he will be essential against three-quarters like Brian O'Driscoll.

Vaccari will add some defensive solidity as will (Cristian) Stoica who is beginning to look again like the player he was a couple of years ago.

And of course (Alessandro) Troncon and (Diego) Dominguez rose to the occasion yet again.

I am not worried about the low crowds at Rome. It's true we get big crowds at Genoa and that it is nearer the big clubs in the north than Rome.

There is no problem with Rome because it's a big city. They just need to market the game better here.
