Captain Bryan Redpath has admitted Scotland face a massive task to bounce back from the defeat against Ireland when they travel to France in the RBS 6 Nations this weekend.
The Sale Sharks scrum-half reckons the Scots have to show more "guts and ambition" in Sunday's clash in the intimidating atmosphere of the Stade de France if they are to have any chance of making up for last weekend's record loss to the Irish.
The noises coming out of Murrayfield in the immediate aftermath of that 36-6 loss to the Irish were that the trip to Paris - a traditional graveyard of Scotland teams down the years -could not come quickly enough.
However, Redpath has confessed Scotland would be concentrating on simply turning in an improved performance and hoping for a big slice of good fortune against the skilful French.
He said: "We realise it is a huge challenge to go to France. Anyone that's played for Scotland over in France knows it's never an easy place to go even when you're playing well.
"So we know it's a big task, but we have to make sure we get our things done right at the right times and hope that we get the rub of the green. "
Meanwhile, team manager Dougie Morgan is confident Brendan Laney will be able to resume kicking duties this weekend.
The Edinburgh centre was forced to hand the place-kicking responsibilities to stand-off Gordon Ross against the Irish after picking up a thigh strain in training, but is expected to be fit for France.
Morgan said: "Hopefully Laney will be available to take kicks. It was never a problem in terms of running and kicking from hand, it was just when he tried place-kicking last Friday that he felt it. He hasn't started (practising) yet but he will later on in the week."
