Rokocoko: Cueto amongst the best

England winger Mark Cueto has been hailed by All Black scoring machine Joe Rokocoko as his most dangerous opponent in world rugby.
Although Cueto’s try drought increased to 17 games during the autumn internationals, the Sale wing topped the charts for metres gained, defenders beaten and clean breaks within the England ranks.

Yet while Ben Foden and Chris Ashton have hogged the headlines at Twickenham over the past month, Rokocoko is adamant Cueto will be England’s key man for the RBS 6 Nations.

“Mark has been quite quiet recently but he was immense when we played England and I personally think he had a great autumn,” said Rokocoko who boasts one of international rugby’s most impressive strike records of 46 tries in 68 games.

“He is always very dangerous going forward and has a great basic skill set and even thought we beat England he caused us a lot of difficulties.

“He managed to break through our defence on occasions and get among us but luckily we managed to track back and tackle him before anything happened.

“Ben Foden really impressed me and along with Chris Ashton has an exciting career ahead of him but Mark is one of the best wingers I played against, if not the best.”

Cueto, 30, has even been shifted from the right to left wing to accommodate the arrival of Ashton who lit up Twickenham with a sensational length-of-the-field try against Australia.

And Rokocoko believes Cueto’s importance in the England backline is only going to increase as international defences hatch plans to bring the sizzling Saints duo down to size.

“It is exciting to see that England have players in Ben and Chris who makes the crowd sit up while someone like Mark knows what he is doing and when to do it,” he added.

“Ben and Chris just need to keep on trying to improve and look at what Mark has done over his career and they will be at the top of the game.

“All three have exposed their talents this autumn and the same will be said after the Six Nations and they will be marked men come the World Cup.”
