SRU set to offer Robinson new deal

The SRU are keen to tie down Scotland head-coach Andy Robinson on a new longer deal, Scotland rugby supremo Gordon McKie has admitted.
Robinson’s current deal expires at the end of the 2011 Rugby World Cup and after his side’s recent famous defeat of world-champions South Africa he is sure to be in demand - a fact which McKie is well aware of.

He said: “There is speculation about Andy Robinson’s future every single day.

“He is our man until 2012, but with things going the way they are we will have to sit down and have a conversation about what we do sooner than the expiry of his contract.

“Andy will have his own views but I’m sure we will sit down and have a conversation about what makes sense and when.”

The coach has recently received the backing of John Beattie to coach the 2013 British Lions tour of Australia and has been linked to Bath Rugby due to his own personal connections with the club and friendship with new owner Bruce Craig.

Robinson still switches between his two homes in Edinburgh and Bath and the former England flanker still maintains close ties with his home-club with son Olly in the academy.

However, McKie is used to this speculation and aims to sit down soon with Robinson to sort-out a new deal.

“I have not seen Andy since the Autumn Tests,” he added. “He is on a break.

“Andy has been living in two homes for the past three years in both Bath and Edinburgh and, although we have not had a conversation yet, I’m sure we will soon.”
